"The Partisans"
by Andrew L. Peabody

The Partisans tells the story of a young man and woman living amid the turmoil of the American Revolution in the Carolinas between 1776 and 1781. The book shows the hardships that were endured in this chaotic period, when half the population was turned against the other half. Plundering, firing of homes, hanging any men caught and the raping of women were the methods used by each side. No other period in our history was so wantonly barbaric.

The story takes you through the skirmishes and battles fought, tells about the character of the leaders, Sumter, Marion, Pickens, Gates, Morgan, Greene and others on the Partisan side, Ferguson, Tarleton, Wemyss, Clinton and Cornwallis on the British side. It is an exciting tale that tells the true facts about the battles. Colonel Marion's escapades have been romanticized in the past on television, but here you can read about his true activities. The story will let the reader understand our country's beginnings, the courage and bravery of our forbears, their obstinacy and persistence, and the rising of leaders who ultimately drove the British out of America.

This is a story that allows the reader to experience the hardships and atrocities committed. You will be a part of the militia brigades and the army in their skirmishes and battles. You will judge the leaders and partake in the spoils. Your experiences will ultimately help to drive the British out of the Carolinas and out of America. By living this story, you will understand the drive and patriotism of those who fought in that period of our history, those who fought and won!

Andrew Peabody served in the navy during the Korean War. A graduate of Washington & Lee University, he became an entrepreneur after his service time, first in the oil producing business in South Louisiana, then involved with others in a regional airline. After the airline was sold, he became a charter boat captain in Florida, the Caribbean and Quebec. After several years of chartering, he developed and patented a boat anchor that works in all bottom conditions. Since 1990 he has been manufacturing and selling them as well as building some trailerable sharpie sailboats for people who enjoy the look and sailing qualities of traditional sailboats. A lover of history, he settled in Natchez, Mississippi in an old home dating back to 1785 where he and his wife, Jeanie, raised four children.
